We Care for Our Bass
Tournament anglers and organizers participating in summer bass tournaments should be extra aware of proper bass handling needs. KDFWR recommends that all bass anglers and tournament organizers review the B.A.S.S. sponsored manual, “Keeping Bass Alive”, KDFWR Fisheries Division endorses these procedures and recommends that all bass tournament sponsors and anglers adopt these as standard practices in their event. Attempt to maintain LiveWell temperatures 5-10 degrees F cooler than the lake water using ice. LiveWell’s will need to be run continually with aeration using closed circulation. Do not pump hot lake water into LiveWell. Check LiveWell temperature once per hour. Stress can be further reduced by adding salt to the LiveWell (1/3 cup per 5 gallons of LiveWell water). For closed LiveWell recirculation, LiveWell water should be exchanged halfway through the tournament when holding 10 pounds of bass or more. Minimize the amount of time bass spend out of water.
