You will have a fun and exciting time if you follow the rules and regulations. Accidents can happen\, and it is your job as a responsible boater to learn the rules and use caution when on the water. Raccoon lake fishing enthusiasts should also prioritize safety to ensure an enjoyable experience. \nRaccoon Lake is a busy lake\, especially on weekends and holidays. It is important to follow these guidelines to ensure everyone has a safe and fun day on the water. \n\n\nAll drivers MUST have a valid driver’s license \n\n\nAll drivers MUST follow the same drinking laws as if driving a vehicle \n\n\nMake sure you have the proper safety equipment on board \n\n\nYou are knowledgeable about how to operate the boat \n\n\nYou respect the local wildlife \n\n\nWatercraft Registration and Permits\nAll watercrafts must be registered and numbered within 31 days of purchase. Registration numbers must be displayed on the forward half of the watercraft on both sides above the waterline and read left to right. The numbers must be in BOLD block letters at least 3 inches high in a color contrasting to the hull and be readable from 100ft. \nThe watercraft registration decal must be renewed every year and displayed within 6 inches of the registration numbers on the port (left) side of the boat. A lake permit MUST be displayed on your boat. Permits can be bought at the Raccoon State Recreation Area front gate or online at https://stores.innsgifts.com/ \nBoating Accidents & Safety\nAccidents must be reported to the local Sheriff’s department or Conservation Officers. Reckless or careless operation of a vessel can result in jail time or tickets. Watercraft operating in speed zones posted as “Idle Speed – No Wake” must maintain minimal wake while maneuvering safely. \nTraffic Rules \n\n\nWhen two boats are approaching “head to head\,” each boat bears to the right and passes on the left. \n\n\nWhen boats approach at angles\, the boat on the right has the right-of-way. Sailboats or nonmotorized vessels always have priority if applicable. \n\n\nA boat may overtake and pass another on either side if done safely. \n\n\nBoating Under the Influence: Operating a watercraft while impaired by alcohol or drugs is against the law. Blood alcohol level of 0.08 or higher is considered over the limit. \nBoater Safety & Education: Be aware of watercraft capacity\, and ensure everyone onboard has Coast Guard-approved life jackets.
